Partnership introduces free maker space in Greenville
Take a look at ‘Art Nook,’ starting this evening
Greenville Center for Creative Arts (GCCA), a hub for the arts and a cornerstone of Greenville’s cultural community, announced a new partnership with ReCraft Creative Reuse Center.
The “Art Nook” will open its doors to the community at GCCA’s NightShifts event this evening at 5 p.m.
GCCA’s Art Nook is a collaborative venture with ReCraft, leveraging their expertise in creating youth-friendly makerspaces and their mission to repurpose creative materials. NightShifts is GCCA’s monthly gallery crawl that offers a wide range of programming, including exhibitions, food vendors, performance art, and new exhibitions.
The Art Nook is a free, permanent fixture at GCCA and will always be open to the public during GCCA business hours. Use of the space will be embedded into GCCA’s Carrie Burns Brown Art School programming and its summer camps.
“This was a natural programming opportunity for GCCA,” said GCCA’s CEO Sara Grambach. “Many of our events feature ReCraft as part of the guest experience. So when GCCA staff got together to brainstorm ways to repurpose the storage area inside the beautiful Gray Loft, it was a no-brainer to make it into something for kids of all ages and in partnership with the ReCraft team.”
“ReCraft and GCCA have been long-time partners in Greenville’s creative community, because there is natural synergy between our arts organizations,“ said Grand Cothran, executive director of ReCraft. “We believe every community deserves a hands-on space to create. Having an extension of ReCraft in West Greenville is a wonderful opportunity to engage even more young people in artistic expression, learning, and growth.”
With the generous support of GCCA donors, the Art Nook has been beautifully upfitted as a creative space. GCCA staff and interns put in many hours of physical labor to transform it. Recraft is providing logistics expertise and will keep the Art Nook stocked with reusable materials.
The Art Nook will open to the public at 5 p.m. at GCCA (101 Abney St,, in the Village of West Greenville).
