Museums invited to join Blue Star Museums

Sign up by April 1 to join the list of museums providing free admission to military families this summer.

The National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families invite museums to register as a Blue Star 2013 Museum and provide free admission to active duty military personnel and their families between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America.

Even if your institution already offers a similar program or free admission to all, registering as a Blue Star Museum provides a national platform to showcase your museum to the military community.

The 2012 summer program included 1,882 museums across the country, from fine arts museums to science and nature centers to historic sites and attendance by more than 475,000 active duty military personnel and their families. Check out the 2012 list of participating museums by state.

To become a Blue Star museum, the process is simple: just follow this link to sign up online. Please respond before April 1, 2013, so that your museum will be included on the NEA Blue Star Museums map and website.

After the registration deadline, you will receive a welcome e-mail with a link where you will find information on admissions eligibility and promotional resources to help you share news about this summer program. For more information, e-mail bluestarmuseums@arts.gov.
