An update from Bluffton

Last Friday, The Hub shared real estate news from Bluffton affecting the Society of Bluffton Artists.

We can report this morning Pluff Mudd Art, a co-op gallery next door to SOBA’s two buildings, is also for sale. All of the buildings have the same owner.

Donna Varner, a Pluff Mudd Art member, shared that that building is not yet under contract but that she expects that to change.

She told The Hub that between SOBA and Pluff Mudd, some 120 artists could lose their gallery spaces and that “neither gallery knows where it is going to go.”

Three years ago, according to Varner, the Maye River Gallery faced a similar situation. She expressed concern for what could happen to the character of their downtown if the galleries relocate.

“It took over a year and a half for them to find a new spot to lease. It totally changed the dynamic of Calhoun Street, the art center of Old Town Bluffton.”

The Hub will monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
