Hub Quick Hits: Luthier crafts guitars with iconic sourcing

Shred on a guitar made from New Brookland Tavern’s old West Columbia stage? Now you can.

Today we debut an overdue “Luthiers” tag on The Hub thanks to a great story by Jordan Lawrence at The State.

He has a story in that publication today about how a guitar maker is crafting new instruments using pieces from an erstwhile, iconic concert venue in the Midlands. After a long history in West Columbia, it hopped over to the Richland side of the Congaree this year. Parts of the original venue are being repurposed quite well.

We won’t take away the story’s thunder except to say it weaves together artist entrepreneurship, the performing arts scene, and the creative economy and is worth checking out. (Subscription might be required.)
