The South Carolina Arts Commission has a job opening for a coordinator for executive, program and department support. The position provides a broad range of expert level administrative and clerical services for the executive director and the senior manager and also provides administrative and clerical support, management and implementation of projects under the direction of arts program directors.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Applicants must have expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) for the development of correspondence, the designing of presentations, and the creation and maintenance of data; proficiency with Internet browsers and e-mail systems, and the ability to conduct basic research. Knowledge or experience reflecting a broad background in the arts is a plus.
  • Excellent judgment and decision making skills in all areas of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with agency executives, staff, board, funders, governmental officials, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.  Ability to perform work in a detail-oriented environment with overlapping timelines, complex information flow, and multiple projects. Ability to anticipate needs and take initiative when needed. Must consistently meet deadlines, effectively plan activities and organize paper and electronic documents. Ability to prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
  • Punctuality, attendance, and adherence to daily work schedule are essential. Overnight travel, evening, and weekend work is sometimes required. Also required are lifting and moving up to 25 pounds and long periods of sitting at a desk and/or sitting in front of a computer.

Minimum requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in a related area and experience in the assigned programmatic arts area are required.

Preferred qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree (preferably in an arts discipline, arts administration, public administration, business administration, or office systems technology) and professional experience in office management, event planning and coordination, administration, programming, or providing personal administrative assistance to a program or department.  Three to five years of professional experience is preferred.

Selected applicants will be asked to complete a written assessment, demonstrate analytical and research skills, organize information, and validate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database, Internet, and email systems.
