Morris Center announces departure
Preparations begin for new staff leader
The trustee of the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage announced yesterday that Executive Director Tamara Herring will step down from her role effective Oct. 31, 2025.
Under Herring’s leadership, the Morris Center strengthened its role as a vital cultural anchor in the Lowcountry. She led Morris Center through a period of growth and community engagement, expanding its educational programming, deepening its connections with regional history and culture, and championing initiatives that have enhanced accessibility and inclusion.
“We are deeply grateful for Tamara’s vision, dedication, and commitment to the Morris Center’s mission,” said Richard Allen, Morris Center trustee. “Her leadership was integral in the growth of the center and our ability to serve the community in valuable, memorable ways. She has positioned us well for the next chapter in our journey.”
The trust has engaged Annmarie Reiley-Kay, a respected museum consultant, to lead a comprehensive search for the next executive director. The incoming leader will guide the organization into its next decade, building on the Morris Center’s successes while charting new opportunities for growth, innovation, and community impact.

“Serving as executive director of the Morris Center has been an honor,” said Herring of her seven years in the role. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that the Center’s next leader will carry the torch forward, inspiring future generations to explore and celebrate the rich heritage of the Lowcountry.”
The trust anticipates announcing Herring’s successor later this year.
The Morris Center receives grant funding from the South Carolina Arts Commission to support operations and folklife and traditional arts and arts learning programming.
