Being prepared means thinking about what you will do if the unexpected happens. Making decisions ahead of time lets you act more quickly, more safely and more intentionally.

While the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is historically quiet, don’t be lulled into complacency. Other people’s landfalling hurricanes can cause trouble. Wildfires are a constant threat during South Carolina’s current rainfall deficits. “Regular” fires can change your life in a moment’s time.

We are not into scare tactics, but we definitely value preparedness, and sometimes it helps to be reminded why that should be top of mind for us all.

NCAPER, the National Coalition for Arts Preparedness and Emergency Response, put together some handy tips. It’s a quick read, but in their words:

“Small actions can make a big difference! Here are suggestions for whether you have ten minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour.”
