Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site

Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site is 106+ acre outdoor museum complex that includes the 18th-century town site of South Carolina's oldest existing town, Camden. Visitors may view five late 18th to early 19th-century Kershaw County structures, including the newly restored McCaa's Tavern. All are open for the self-guided tour offered Tuesday-Sunday for interpretive and exhibit purposes. Reconstructions include some of the military fortifications installed during 1780-81 Southern Campaign of the Revolution when Lord Cornwallis and 2,500 British soldiers garrisoned at Camden. The reconstructed Joseph Kershaw mansion, commandeered as British headquarters, is opened for guided tours at scheduled times only. A traditional blacksmith shed with working forge and 16-minute orientation film and the museum gift shop are also inviting stops. Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sun. 2-5 p.m. Daily free self-guided tours. Guided tour of Kershaw House (fee): 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tues.-Fri; 10:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4 p.m. Sat. and 2:30-4 p.m. Sundays. Nature Trail (plus several off-site walking trails), picnic area, photo ops at the Pillory and Stocks, and free kids' scavenger hunts make this a perfect family-fun outing!

Lisa B. Studios, owned by Camden artist Lisa Boykin Adams, is located in the historic Greenleaf Villa in downtown Camden and is open by chance or by appointment. Adams' work is also available in the gallery at Ann Temple and Company, located at 1011 Broad Street in Camden. AT&C's hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m. -5 p.m.
