South Arts has grants up to $2,500 available for nonprofit presenters to engage their communities with authors and writers.

“We believe that a vibrant cultural community needs a vigorous exchange of ideas, and we are thrilled to help our region engage with amazing thinkers, authors, and poets,” says Nikki Estes, program director with South Arts.

Eligible organizations must be within South Arts’ nine-state region, and the project’s author must reside outside of the organization’s state. Support is awarded to literary projects that contain both a public reading and an educational component such as a writing workshop. Projects can include a single engagement by a writer or multiple writers involved in an event (for example, writers series, or festivals). Each writer is required to fully participate in the reading and educational/outreach component. Projects must take place between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.

Literary Arts Touring applications must be submitted online by May 1.
