Cemetery seeks creative entries for urn art competition

Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, N.C., is focusing on the changing style of interment with a juried competition devoted to the art of cremation urns, Urn Art & Garden Faire.

The competition is open to any professional or amateur artist 18 years of age or older. An artist may submit a maximum of two original works that could be used as cremation urns — containers used to hold the ashes of someone who has been cremated. There are no size dimensions or volume requirements for this competition. All works must be sturdy enough to withstand handling and exhibition. All genres/mediums of art will be accepted.

Digital images of the work(s), with entry form, must be received by March 16 at 3 p.m.  Accepted artists will be notified via e-mail on March 23.

The award presentation takes place April 19 from noon – 5 p.m. Prizes to be awarded:

  • 1st Place: $300
  • 2nd Place: $200
  • 3rd Place: $100

Complete guidelines and the application are available online and on the cemetery’s Facebook page.
