Richard Segalman: Ebb & Flow

Art Museum Hosts Exhibition of Beach Scenes by Renowned NY Artist

Artist Richard Segalman’s first exposure to the visual arts was through his mother’s work as a milliner, when he recalls being “surrounded by hats, color and fabric.” As he began his formal art studies, he has written, “I saw the work of Degas, Sargent and Sorolla, and it was like coming home.”
Over his prolific six-decade career, his work, which focused largely on female figures, evolved from charcoal to pastel, watercolor, oil and printmaking. An exhibition of more than 50 of his beach scenes in a variety of media, titled Ebb & Flow, will be presented at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, from May 30 – Sept. 1.
