On the Edge of…– Solo Exhibition by Ming Ying Hong
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Greenville is excited to present our 2024 Open Call winner, Ming Ying Hong, in a solo exhibition, On the Edge of… The exhibition features several large-scale drawings that transform our gallery space into an immersive experience that explores the perspectives of Chinese assimilation in the American South. As an artist identifying through multitudes: Chinese, a Southerner, an American, and an immigrant, Hong employs large self-portraiture to amplify the convergence of social identities experienced across the Chinese Diaspora. Fractured representations of self are embodied alongside iconography synonymous with Chinese identity: double fish, dragon statues of Chinatowns, meandering patterns of serving dishes, and more.
