“More Than Ordinary” by Bryan Wilson
“More Than Ordinary” reveals the story of an artist who reveres the balance of family, creative pursuit, and personal conviction. The exhibition presents a collection of nearly 20 representational oil paintings merging multiple ongoing series by Charlotte-based artist and educator, Bryan Wilson. Selections from the “Balance: My Juggling Act” series offer a glimpse into the artist’s personal life, involving interactions with his family within the context of their home. Selections from his portrait series, “Naturally Speaking,” aim to accentuate the natural beauty and charm of the “everyday Black woman.” Additional selections seek to honor “Ordinary Heroes,” adding to a positive Black narrative within contemporary art, to which the artist is fervently committed.
