Midlands Light Opera Society Presents “Trial by Jury” and “The Dramatic Criminals”
Midlands Light Opera Society will present its inaugural production, a double bill of one-act comic operettas, on August 18-20 at The Living Room (6729 Two Notch Road, Columbia; next to Very’s Restaurant).
“Trial by Jury” is Gilbert and Sullivan’s only opera with no spoken dialogue, and is presented in a modern staging. Bride Angelina goes on a reality tv judge show to sue her fiance Edwin for leaving her at the altar. “The Dramatic Criminals” is a new English-language adaptation of Jacques Offenbach’s “Tromb-al-Cazar,” featuring a libretto by Evelyn Clary. In it, a troupe of actors are fleeing an entertainment magnate and end up in a bar owned by the leading lady’s ex-husband. The productions are directed by Michael Brown and accompanied by Ashleigh Morse.
