Mariachi Herencia de Mexico, an up and coming youth ensemble from Chicago’s immigrant barrios, scored a surprise hit with their debut album of traditional Mexican music. “Nuestra Herencia” (Our Heritage), released May 16th, 2017, hit #2 on the iTunes Latin chart, defying a music industry trend and pointing to a revival in recorded mariachi music. Mariachi Herencia de Mexico performs at the Newberry Opera House, March 28th at 4 p.m.
