Lifting Black Voices | The Rhodes Collection of African-American Art

This summer, the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, S.C. will be filled with more than 80 vibrant and expressive artworks that speak to the history, ancestry and life experiences of African-Americans, in Lifting Black Voices: The Rhodes Collection of African-American Art, an exhibition running June 13 – Sept. 10. Gallery hours will be from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 – 5 p.m. Sundays.

The collection of Dr. and Mrs. Harold Rhodes has been an ongoing project begun in 1971, although Dr. Rhodes says he has been interested in art his entire life. “To me, art ignites the imagination and influences the decisions we make… It affects each one of us differently, and that is the beauty of art,” he adds.
