Glimpses into the Past: Postcards of Sumter

The Sumter County Museum (SCM) is proud to present Glimpses into the Past: Postcards of Sumter. The exhibit will open July 8, 2021 in the Sumter County Museum’s Heritage Education Center, McKenzie Hall and continue through December 30, 2021. The exhibit features an assortment of postcards highlighting scenes of Sumter’s past from the late 1800’s to today. These include images of Main Street, city landmarks, schools, churches and synagogues, restaurants, hotels, and area businesses. The exhibit will cover the history of postcards and their collection today. The museum has selected a variety of postcards reprinted and enlarged for better viewing, and will feature original postcards that will rotate throughout the exhibition. Some of these have been mailed to and/or from Sumter residents.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students (6-17) and seniors (65+), and free for children five and under. Combo tickets allowing admission to all museum sites including the Temple Sinai Jewish History Center are available at a discounted rate of $8 for adults and $3 for students (6-17) and seniors (65+).
