Esther – The First English Oratorio – Charleston
Known as the first English oratorio, Handel’s Esther was a landmark work of 1732 and launched the genre of the oratorio. The King’s Counterpoint, a professional vocal ensemble from Charleston, will perform the work with special guests including members of the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, countertenor Charles Humphries, and tenor Paul Thompson. The program will be presented twice: March 14th at 6 p.m. at the Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort; and March 15th at 3 p.m. at Synagogue Emanu-El in Charleston.
