Temple Sinai Jewish History Center
Visit the newly opened Temple Sinai Jewish History Center to learn about Jewish settlement and life in South Carolina and Sumter and the Holocaust.
There are also traveling exhibits in Ackerman Hall, and special events like dramatic and musical performances, talks, book signings, remembrance events and more.
Sumter County Museum
The Sumter County Museum preserves and interprets the history of Old Sumter District, present day Sumter, Lee, and Clarendon Counties. The museum uses living history, period rooms, and temporary exhibits to share stories about the Sumter area. It includes the Williams-Brice House (1916), the Heritage Education Center, the Carolina Backcountry Homestead and our NEW Temple Sinai Jewish History Center. We also provide rental space for weddings, parties, and other events.
Sumter Opera House
The Sumter Opera House celebrates 125 years of cultural forethought and shared experiences. It is an iconic venue with a rich past imploring visitors to discover old memories and new music. Today it is home to City Hall, City Council chambers and a 550 seat theatre.
The Sumter Opera House is promoting the arts as a catalyst for community vibrancy, quality of life, education and economic development. It serves to enrich the cultural lives of our community, neighbors and visitors by promoting diverse creative experiences.
Elephant Ear Gallery
Elephant Ear Gallery is a co-op gallery of immensely inventive and wonderful artists who not only love to create objects, but like to share them with others.
Visit to browse our gallery for beautiful art work and handcrafted items. We have a number of art classes ongoing throughout the year for children and adults. Gallery hours: Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during daylight savings time. Closed all legal holidays.
Sumter County Gallery of Art
The Sumter County Gallery of Art (SCGA) is a nonprofit, community-based institution with a commitment to present and promote leading edge contemporary visual arts by culturally diverse artists and to increase the knowledge and appreciation thereof, to Sumter, Clarendon, and Lee counties.
