Music composition fellow wins American Prize

Columbia-based composer Meira Warshauer was announced as winner of The American Prize Charles Ives Award in the chamber music category. The contest rewards the finest composers of chamber music in the U.S. in professional, college/university, high school and community divisions.

Warshauer is being honored for her album Ocean Calling, her “impassioned plea on behalf of the ocean, Earth’s greatest natural resource.” Warshauer scored Ocean Calling for two pianos, and the recording features pianists Phillip Bush and Elizabeth Loparits.  the trilogy—Waves and CurrentsFrom the Depths and The Giant Blue—speaks to the vast majesty of the aquatic world and the many challenges that face it.
