Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art celebrates 40 years in Charleston. What sets it apart?

from Post & Courier

It’s a big year for Charleston’s home of contemporary art.

The last decade that Lass has been there offers just a slice of what the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art has accomplished in its four decades since being formally established as the Halsey Gallery at the College of Charleston.

It’s celebrating its 40th anniversary this year…

The Halsey is happy to change with the times, Hirsch said; it is not static.

“It’s very adventurous and unafraid to take risks and bring work that can kick up difficult questions or push your idea of what art even is,” she said. “You never know what you’re going to see. The bricks don’t move outside, but the questions raised inside change drastically with each exhibition.”
