Tropical weather expected to impact much of state
Heavy winds, potential flooding predicted for end of the week
Tropical Storm Helene, expected to become a hurricane in coming days, appears to be taking a path toward parts of the state not accustomed to tropical weather.
As such, while much is not known at this point, being prepared is always advisable. The S.C. Emergency Management Division is monitoring and appears to be operating under the assumption that this could be a statewide event. Because of the forecast track at this writing, areas west of I-26 and the extreme Lowcountry appear to be most at risk. Upstate areas are not used to the emergency prep life, so we are trying to get out in front as best we can.
The South Carolina Arts Commission has resources for disaster preparedness and recovery on our website. One of those is NCAPER, the National Coalition of Arts Preparedness and Emergency Response., which includes dPlan/ArtsReady—a resource specifically to help arts organizations.
Natural and other disasters in recent years gave us ample opportunity to hone our resources page, and we promote the need for preparedness from time to time. It is our hope that these tools have enabled constituent organizations and artists to create a disaster plan that will help facilitate functioning during an emergency and recover afterward.
Should you fall victim to a natural disaster, please advise the appropriate program director of any damages or difficulties that you encounter so that we can help as we can.
Turn around, don’t drown. Make smart, safe decisions. Be ready!
