South Arts’ Folklorists in the South Retreat open to artists, the general public
South Arts invites anyone with an interest in the traditional arts to join a gathering of academic, public sector, freelance, community scholars and graduate student folklorists for a weekend of networking, discussions, panels, professional development opportunities and field trips. The 2015 Folklorists in the South Retreat takes place June 5-7, 2015, at St. Christopher’s Camp & Conference Center on Seabrook Island, S.C. This year’s theme, Open the Door: Crafting Sustainable Partnerships, will include an exploration of the hows and whys of partnerships and examine successful in-region partnerships. The gathering includes updates from national partners, media presentations, panels, discussions and field trips, in addition to the opportunity to meet informally with peers.
Retreat highlights:
- Field trip to the annual Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival
- Professional development workshop with Morenga Hunt that will examine arts partnerships
- Saturday evening Low Country Boil dinner followed by a concert with Mill Billy Blues featuring Freddie Vanderford
- Sessions addressing establishing long-term partnerships with artists, the accessibility of folklife archives, and national updates
