Scholarship opportunity for aspiring Broadway stars
Four awards up for grabs in competition
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, May 1, 2026
The Hub did not intend to make today’s posts (so far?) about theatre, but we’re not going to fight it.

Not with three cash awards and a tuition to a summer training session of the Institute for American Musical Theater on the line for South Carolina high school students!
South Carolina New Play Festival has a really cool scholarship contest called Next Broadway Star. Executive Director West Hyler got in touch to tell us any South Carolina high school student—public, private, or homeschooled—can record a submission to enter. All that is required is to submit a video of yourself singing a song from a musical.
From the applicants, 50 will be invited to Greenville to compete on August 3 in the semi-final round at the for the SC New Play Festival. Out of the 50, 12 will advance to the final round. No pressure, but you will perform live that evening with an audience, band, and judging panel comprised of Broadway agents, casting directors, and musical theater stars.
The winners will be awarded scholarships to further their theater education. Funds can be applied to tuition, application fees, travel expenses for theater programs, or private acting lessons and workshops. Here is the breakdown:
- First Place: $5,000
- Second Place: $2,500
- Third Place: $1,000
- New in 2026: “Most Potential,” who will receive a summer training scholarship to the Institute for American Musical Theatre (IAMT) in NYC, complete with housing in Manhattan.
Those 50 semifinalists do not go home empty-handed; they will receive free access to SCNPF professional-led workshop sessions happening throughout the day.
Apply here by May 1, and best of luck from The Hub and SCAC.
