Remembering Marian McPartland, “Piano Jazz” host

From South Carolina ETV:

Marian McPartland, the host of SC ETV Radio’s national NPR series Piano Jazz, has died. She was 95. She leaves behind an astonishing legacy of over three decades of original interviews and performances with America’s greatest jazz artists.

SC ETV Radio’s Director Shari Hutchinson also served as program producer and said this of Marian: “Marian was of course the brilliant artist and beloved icon of Public Radio. I was able to work closely with one of the strongest, most successful, vital, creative women of her time, someone who overcame every obstacle and who pushed through every glass ceiling. I am deeply saddened at her passing, and at the same time profoundly joyful she let me into her life.”

ETV Radio will air a special tribute program Saturday, August 24 at 8 p.m. on the news service and Sunday, August 25 at 7 p.m. on the classical service. ETV will air THE BIG PICTURE: MARIAN McPARTLAND, Monday, August 26 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, August 29 at 7:30 p.m.; and MARIAN McPARTLAND: FIRST LADY OF JAZZ, Monday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, August 29 at 7 p.m.
