Lowcountry town opens RFQ for future public arts projects

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 25, 2024

Recognizing the cultural benefit that art in public locations brings to a community, the town of Bluffton (“town”) created a Public Art Committee in 2022.

The committee works with town staff and makes recommendations to the Bluffton town council for approval. In October, 2022, council approved a Public Art Policy for the town of Bluffton and approved the development of a Public Art Master Plan.

Town is now seeking statements of qualifications from artists of various 2D and 3D media in order to cultivate an open call roster for future art solicitations. Each future solicitation will be listed as an open call and will describe the objective, the location, and any pre-determined details about the budget, media, scale or subject-matter, or whether those details are at the artists’ discretion. These future solicitations will be paid commissions.

This Request for Qualifications shall remain open through March 25, 2024 to create the first list of pre-approved artists. After March 25, 2024, the RFQ will reopen every six (6) months for additional artists to submit qualifications packages. The town intends to assess new qualification packages at the end of each March and September.

Application requirements

Applicants will be required to submit an artist’s statement, their professional resume/CV, digital images, and project references. Additional preference will be given to artists who are based in the Southeast, so please highlight your location and location of your installations.

Eligibility criteria

Artists eligible for the pre-approved open call list may be both emerging and established artists, individuals and artist-led teams working with a wide variety of media who have completed projects for private clients, public agencies, and/or grassroots or community projects.

The town is most interested in spotlighting artists from the Southeast, in particular Coastal South Carolina. Apply today at Call For Entry.org.
