Hub Quick Hits: Past SCAC fellow awarded unique residency
Adrian Rhodes heading to Texas this summer
Among the most recognized of current visual #SCArtists is Adrian Rhodes of Hartsville. But this summer, for two weeks, she will be Adrian Rhodes of Houston.
Hub readers will surely recognize Rhodes, whose honors include an FY20 SCAC individual artist fellowship, additional residencies at the prestigious Penland School and 701 Center for Contemporary Art in the Carolinas, and winner of the 701 CCA Prize also in 2020.
But for those checking those dates and concerned Rhodes peaked then, well, fear not. The Ramona Residency recently announced Rhodes as one of its residents for 2025/2026. The residency, founded just last year, invites resident artists, who are mothers, and their families for two-week stays at a bungalow in the Houston area. It seeks to draw attention to the complexities involved with balancing caregiving and creating.
Rhodes and family will head west and stay Aug. 1-15. Each Ramona Residency concludes with an artist talk or open studios.
