Spartanburg Fringe Arts Festival
Spartanburg Fringe Arts Festival will host performances, plays, cinema, comedy, spoken word, a fashion show, music, & an art exhibit to give public exposure to creative works that are often considered to be too unusual for mainstream acceptance. Notably, there will be several performances of Fun Home, a Broadway musical that won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It will be produced by Proud Mary Theatre Company, South Carolina’s first & only theatre company dedicated to presenting LGBTQ+ voices & stories. The Festival runs June 1 - 30 at West Main Artists Co-op.
Columbia Open Studios Presented by 701 Center for Contemporary Art
701 Center for Contemporary Art presents Columbia Open Studios April 6 - 7. Nearly 70 artist studios in Richland and Lexington counties will be open for self-guided tours. Maps are available online. Preview party will be held April 4 at 701 Whaley Street.
Columbia Open Studios City Hall Exhibition
A selection of participating Columbia Open Studios 2019 artists will exhibit February 1 - March 15 at the Gallery at City Hall in Columbia. Columbia Open Studios is a self-guided, weekend-long, free tour of artists’ studios scheduled for April 6 - 7 in the Greater Columbia area, including all of Richland and Lexington counties.
Patton Handmade annual fall pottery sale
Patton Handmade will host a fall pottery sale November 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the studio, which is near Campbell’s covered bridge in Greer. Open Doors – Open Studios at West Main Artists Co-op
West Main Artists Co-op will host its annual all-member art exhibition Open Doors November 15 – December 29. The exhibition will showcase new work created by 48 local visual artists. The exhibit opens with an evening of open studio tours and a reception during ArtWalk on November 15 from 5-9 p.m., when most of the organization’s studio artists will literally “open their doors” to the public. The exhibit’s closing reception will be December 20 from 5 - 9 p.m. during ArtWalk. The exhibition is on view through December 29.
Greenville Open Studios
Metropolitan Arts Council presents the 17th annual Greenville Open Studios November 10 - 11. This self-guided tour features 143 artists and 89 studio locations throughout a 15-mile radius of downtown Greenville, with Easley, Greer, Travelers Rest and Simpsonville included. Free.
Columbia Open Studios
701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia presents the eighth annual Columbia Open Studios April 7-8. This self-led tour features 70 local artist studios in Columbia and throughout Richland and Lexington counties. Free. Maps and an online guide can be found on the website. Gallery 5 Art Exhibition & Sale featuring Harriet Goode, Tamara LaValla + Tom Stanley
Gallery 5 in Rock Hill presents an art exhibition & sale featuring Harriet Goode, Tamara LaValla and Tom Stanley November 17-18. The sale is part of Old Town’s 2nd annual Art Party, a three-day celebration of visual and performing arts in South Carolina’s first state-recognized cultural district. Local and regional artists will showcase their work at locations throughout Old Town Rock Hill, including a juried exhibition, open artist studios, a performance by XOXO, plus workshops and seminars. Admission to Gallery 5 is free November 17-18 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
ART PARTY! Rock Hill
ART PARTY! is a visual and performing arts showcase celebrating Rock Hill's arts community in the state's first officially designated Cultural District. Stroll down Main Street in Old Town and take in a juried exhibition of artwork installed in nine businesses, plus artists' open studios, performances, and workshops. This three-day event kicks off November 16 and ends November 18 with a Shindig closing party. ART PARTY! features nationally recognized artists as well as emerging, local creators working in an array of mediums from ceramics to photography, oils, watercolor and mixed media.
Come Draw with Me Day
The Museum of York County will host the annual “Come Draw with Me Day" January 14th. Bring a sketch pad and pencils and join the Catawba River Art Guild, Winthrop University art students and other local artists in sketching and rendering drawings taken from the museum’s vast collection of natural history specimens. The museum’s Settlemyre Planetarium will feature a special exoplanet drawing activity, which when digitally submitted to NASA’s website will be loaded aboard the TESS spacecraft. For an additional fee of $10 (pre-registration required), two drawing instruction sessions with Dr. Brad Sabelli, president of the Catawba River Art Guild, will be offered for ages 12 and older.
