Knowing better means doing better

Everybody who seeks to engage with the arts should be able to experience and enjoy them, but for those with disabilities, physical and online spaces are often inaccessible… and can even be unwelcoming.

To help arts organizations, the South Carolina Arts Commission and partners Able South Carolina offer an informative webinar series designed on topics of accessibility for people with disabilities. Able SC is a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability nonprofit that seeks to make South Carolina a national model of inclusion for all people with disabilities.

The series is back for FY26 Wednesday, Oct. 1! Representatives of the Columbia Museum of Art and Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center are going to walk participants through their successes in making arts programming more accessible.

This year’s version of the series takes the form of a “lunch and learn,” meeting from noon to 1 p.m. in a new, quarterly schedule. SCAC grantees and non-grantees alike are welcome to register and take part. Details are coming together for the full series, but registration is open for Oct. 1.
