Degenerates unite: for week-long arts event
The Jasper Project, a project-oriented, multidisciplinary arts facilitator serving the greater Midlands, announce The Degenerate Art Project, its newest, opening on July 9 at Stormwater Studios in Columbia.
The Degenerate Art Project is a week-long multidisciplinary arts event (July 9–12) which invited 20+ Columbia visual artists to respond to today’s sociopolitical climate. Inspired by—and reclaiming—the legacy of the Nazi-labeled “Degenerate Art” of 1937, this project champions creative resistance and free expression through a visual art exhibition and one-night-only poetry, community, and music events.
The schedule of events includes an opening reception and artist talk on Wednesday July 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; a night of protest poetry on Thursday July 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; an Activism Resource Fair on Friday July 11 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. featuring organizations from throughout the Midlands; and a closing party on Saturday July 12th from 4-9 p.m. featuring performances by local musical artists and an opportunity to participate in a community drum circle.
