On the occasion of the publication Praise Songs for Dave the Potter: Art and Poetry for David Drake, a trio of Governor’s Award for the Arts recipients is coming together to celebrate.
Join the Gibbes Museum of Art for a conversation with book contributors Jonathan Green and Glenis Redmond as they discuss how Drake’s pottery and poetry have inspired their work.
David Drake is recognized as one of the most accomplished nineteenth-century potters in the United States. Even though his pots—many inscribed with original verse—sit in museums across the nation, he is too often passed over when considering the early foundations of African American poetry.
Redmond will sit for a book signing following the program. Copies of the book pre-signed by Green will be available to purchase in the gift shop.
Cost for the event is $40 for the general public. Museum members receive a discount. A credit card fee applies. Support from The Loutrel Hotel is making this program possible.
