Classes offered by Columbia Baroque Soloists

Registration deadline is June 24.

Join the Columbia Baroque Soloists for a series of five master classes in Baroque recorder and harpsichord. Classes take place Monday evenings beginning July 1. Each session begins with a brief performance demonstration followed by individual master classes on recorder and harpsichord and concluding with an opportunity to play sonatas, suites and trio sonatas in small ensembles.

Classes will focus on the contrasts between the energy and fire of Italian music and French refinement and elegance. Participants will study the compositional characteristics and styles of performance including Italian freely extemporized ornamentation and French specified ornamentation. Class sessions feature the following topics: Scarlatti Night featuring Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti; Couperin Night; Marcello and Chaconne Night; Christmas in July — French Noels with Delalande and friends; and Performance Night.

Classes are open to high school students through adults; participants and auditors are welcome.

Tuition:

  • Participant $80
  • Student  $60
  • Auditor  $40
  • Individual Session Auditor $10
