Familiar face (re)appointed to top NEA spot
from NASAA reports
President Trump has nominated Mary Anne Carter to be the 14th chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
Carter was appointed in January as an interim advisor to the NEA and was the NEA’s chairman during the first Trump administration, so her experience gives her deep knowledge of the agency’s mission and operations. She also has extensive public policy expertise, having worked on Capitol Hill and as a top advisor to Florida Sen. Rick Scott. Carter’s nomination has been submitted to the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which traditionally leads the Senate confirmation process for NEA leadership.
According to NASAA, Carter had a “fruitful working relationship” with state arts agencies like the SCAC during her previous stint as NEA leader, and NASAA would “applaud her return to the post.”
