Ashley River Creative Arts a “Cool School”

Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School, a longtime Arts in the Basic Curriculum Project (ABC) site, is a magnet school for children in the West Ashley area of Charleston. More than 500 students are immersed in the arts throughout the day, with teachers using the arts to teach and reinforce skills in all subject areas. Ashley River is a Palmetto’s Finest School, a National Blue Ribbon School and a John F. Kennedy Center School of Distinction. The school received the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award for the Arts in Arts Education in 1987-1988.

Recently, the school was recognized by WCBD-TV as a “Cool School.”
