War & Society Film Series: A Very Long Engagement
Coastal Carolina University’s War & Society Film Series presents a screening of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2004 film, A Very Long Engagement September 26 at 5 p.m. in the Coastal Theater. The film tells a story of a young woman’s relentless search for her fiancé, a soldier who disappeared from the trenches of the Somme during World War 1. Following the screening, Philip Whalen, CCU professor of history, provides the historical and political context for the film and leads a discussion on France, WW1 and memory.
