Virginia Derryberry: Costume Construction/Artifactual Series
Virginia Derryberry creates large-scale, oil-on-canvas figure paintings and fabric/costume constructions that blend narrative elements from mythology and alchemy. Some works in this exhibit are “found” costumes, but others have been designed and sewn from scratch. The figures are portraits of specific individuals who are well known to Derryberry, and her work blends real space with constructed formal compositions. The works will be featured in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery at Coastal Carolina University through October 14th. A reception is scheduled for September 8th from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.
