The Poetry at McLeod Series with Local Poet Gary Jackson

Poet Gary Jackson will read as part of James Island Arts’ Poetry at McLeod series March 18 from 2 – 4 p.m. This series brings African American poets to a plantation site to illuminate the experience and legacy of American slavery. Jackson was born in Topeka, KS, and is the author of Missing You, Metropolis. His poems have appeared in Callaloo, Tin House, 32 Poems, and elsewhere. The reading will take place at McLeod Plantation Historic Site, a Gullah heritage site preserved for its cultural and historical significance. A guided tour and reception will follow the reading.
