The Nutcracker at Newberry Opera House
Newberry Opera House presents Dance Alive National Ballet’s The Nutcracker, December 15. Traditionally set in the late 1800s, a young girl’s godfather is a toymaker whose toys magically come alive at midnight. Clara is awakened and becomes caught in a battle between the Nutcracker Prince’s soldiers and the Rat King’s minions. Clara then ventures through a magical realm to reach the Sugar Plum Fairy. Dance Alive National Ballet has created a modern twist on the original story for this production. Boys and girls ages 5-12 can have tea, sweets, and light sandwiches with the Sugar Plum Fairy before the performance, at the Firehouse Conference Center at 2pm (tickets $25, with limited capacity). For people of all ages, there is a one-hour abbreviated educational performance, December 16.
