The Image Hunter: On the Trail of John James Audubon
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art presents The Image Hunter: On the Trail of John James Audubon August 17 – September 29. Featuring new work by the Italian artist Hitnes, the exhibition is a culmination of The Image Hunter project, in which Hitnes retraced Audubon’s travels in the U.S. and created work during a residency in Charleston. Audubon spent the early decades of the 19th century tracking and drawing birds with the goal of creating a compendium of all of the birds in the U.S. Nearly 200 years later, the Italian painter and muralist Hitnes embarked on a 20-city road trip to retrace & rediscover the America that Audubon traversed in the making of his opus, The Birds of America. The opening reception takes place August 24 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Free.
