Songs of Travel: Vaughan Williams & Andrew Fowler

Robert Louis Stevenson’s poetry collection Songs of Travel explores the theme of wanderlust. The work inspired British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams to create a song cycle for baritone and piano, completed in 1904. More than a century later, South Carolina composer Andrew Fowler’s cycle based on the same source will premiere at Coastal Carolina University, September 20th, in a performance featuring Fowler’s frequent collaborators, baritone Jeffrey Jones and pianist Philip Powell.
