Some Abstraction Required

Some Abstraction Required is a group exhibition featuring the work of nine contemporary artists, on view at the Spartanburg Art Museum from April 5 – June 13, 2016. Viewers are challenged to consider science and mathematics in conjunction with the visual arts. This exhibition displays a variety of mixed media techniques, including painting, collage, altered books, epoxy clay, and site-specific installation. Some of the themes addressed by the objects include the duality of chance and precision, mathematical systems and patterns, and altering the viewer’s perception of space. A special reception celebrating the exhibition will be held on April 21 from 5-8pm.
