Rhiannon Giddens Honors Black History Month in York

Culture & Heritage Museums’ 2016 Southern Sound Series presents Rhiannon Giddens, February 27 at the McCelvey Center in York, SC. Giddens’ escalating success includes various collaborative musical projects that have set her on course as a contemporary showstopper with a powerhouse voice. She has performed at the McCelvey twice before with the Grammy-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops. She returns in honor of Black History month with Bhi Bhiman and cellist Leyla McCalla to lead the new “Swimming in Dark Waters: Other Voices of the American Experience” tour. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Giddens attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she performed as a lyric coloratura soprano. In February 2015, Giddens released her debut solo album-“Tomorrow is My Turn.”
