Rag Quilting Workshop
The Charleston Museum will host Sharon Cooper-Murray, the Gullah Lady, for a lecture and hands-on workshop about the folk art tradition of rag quilting July 28. Dating to the antebellum period, feed and grain sacks were combined with rag strips to make these unique quilts. Cooper-Murray was taught the process by Gullah women from Wadmalaw and Johns Island and is on a mission to preserve this disappearing art form. $50 for members, $65 for nonmembers.
