Peter Dimery Trio, Wheel Session 77
The Wheel Sessions, Greenville’s underground jazz series for an intimate listening audience, continues with Wheel Session 77 featuring the Peter Dimery Trio, January 23rd at 1801 Rutherford Road. Peter is a “Bad” tenor man. He possesses the big sound and soulful jazz phrasing that is reminiscent of many of the great tenor saxophonist of the 20th century. A native of Florence, SC and graduate of Furman University, Peter is plotting his move to the jazz big leagues – New York City. Fortunately, he is still living and performing (with just about everybody) right here in Greenville, SC. Peter’s trio features bassist Shannon Hoover and drummer Kevin Korschgen. The saxophone trio was once a rarity, but when jazz artists (Sonny Rollins, in particular) began experimenting with chordless ensembles in the 1950s, it became a daring extension of those experiments, and eventually a staple of small-group jazz.
