Indigo Hands-on Workshop from Farm to Fabric
Sustainable Midlands presents a hands-on indigo workshop October 16th. Indigo, an important export of Charleston in the 1700s, is once again being grown in South Carolina. The workshop will start at Arnold Farms in Eastover with a harvest of indigo plants, then move to the USC Green Quad Green House where natural dyer Caroline Harper will guide participants in creating a fresh leaf indigo vat and dyeing a piece of cotton fabric. The history and revival of indigo in South Carolina will also be discussed. Refreshments will be served. Bring your dyer’s clothes or an apron. Gloves, material and fabric will be supplied. $125. Register by October 13th.
