OLLI at Clemson University is hosting a performance of Greenville Light Opera Works (GLOW)’s The Crucible at the Cheezem Education Center July 22 at 12:30 p.m. Based on the Salem Witch Trials, and originally conceived as an allegory about McCarthyism in the 1950s, The Crucible is an English language opera written by Robert Ward based on the play of the same name by Arthur Miller. It won both the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for Music and the New York Music Critics Circle Citation. GLOW seeks to utilize theatre for social change by producing socially relevant, nationally recognized work, and this year’s theme is Question Authority. Attend this performance and performance of The Gondoliers July 26, then take part in a discussion on July 28. $49.00 for OLLI members; $79.00 for non-members.
