October Exhibition at Aiken Center for the Arts
Aiken Center for the Arts presents “Nourishing Art: Portraying the Diversity and Development of American Food Cultures,” on view October 1-30. This exhibit examines how, during the last sixty years, new technologies and cultural changes have transformed how and what we eat. The story of Americans and food during the past decades is about much more than what’s for dinner. The diverse array of works in this exhibition – from paintings of a modern food truck and a view of a farmers’ market to the portraits of family members during family taco dinner night – depict those changes and some of the factors – new technologies and broad shifts in social and cultural life – behind them. The opening reception will be held October 1 from 6 until 8 pm.
