Nice Work if You Can Get It
Girls, gangsters, glamour and Gershwin! Town Theatre’s first production of the new year is Nice Work if You Can Get It, running January 15-31 in Columbia. Town will take you back to the roaring 20s where charming playboy, Jimmy Winter, comes face to face with female bootlegger, Billie Bendix, on the eve of his wedding. Thinking Jimmy and his fiancée will be out of town, Billie and her gang determine they can hide cases of alcohol in the basement of Jimmy’s Long Island mansion. But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her prohibitionist family show up at the mansion, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing hi-jinks. This “new” comedy is set against the backdrop of classic hits like “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Fascinating Rhythm” and the title song.
