Music’s Reflection of the Civil War and Resurrection

The Carolina Concert Choir and guest baritone Stephen Wilkins (from Spartanburg) will present “Music’s Reflection of the Civil War and Resurrection” on Saturday, April 18 at 3pm, in the Bo Thomas Auditorium of Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, NC. This concert will commemorate the end of the Civil War, 150 years ago. Professor Lawrence Doebler, artistic director/conductor, will conduct Ralph Vaughan Williams’ featured work, “Dona Nobis Pacem,” which combines text of Walt Whitman’s intense portrayal of scenes from the Civil War, with colorful metaphors and emotional imagery. Spirituals will be woven into the concert and the final work will be Vaughan Williams’ “Five Mystical Songs,” sung by Stephen Wilkins and choir.
