Living Tradition: Painting Sacred Icons in the 21st Century

Orthodox Arts Journal, a member of the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts, presents Living Tradition: Painting Sacred Icons in the 21st Century, on May 23 at 1:00, at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Mt. Pleasant. An exhibition of icons and talks by two prominent artists, Philip Davydov and Fr. Silouan Justiniano, who balance honoring the visual implications of our contemporary world with upholding the integrity of an exacting tradition. Philip Davydov is a second-generation professional iconographer from St. Petersburg, Russia. Fr. Silouan Justiniano, originally from Puerto Rico, trained to be a modern artist in New York City, but now lives at a monastery on Long Island. The event includes open discussion with the artists and tour of the church.
